Two Girls, One Room
The second night we tried putting Ellie and Emma in the same room at night didn't go so well. At about 3am Ellie woke up and we could not calm her down. We pulled her out of the room, but not before Emma woke up too. We took Ellie into our room and tried to fall asleep. A minute later we heard a tiny voice through the baby monitor, "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy." So of course, I went in to see what Emma needed. She said, "Daddy, I want baby sister to sleep in my room." I explained that Ellie couldn't come back in because she wasn't sleeping well. She countered with, "Daddy, will you sleep in my bed?" I declined the offer of sharing her twin bed for the rest of the night. The good negotiator that she is, she again countered with, "Will you hold me?" I guarantee you, no one could ever deny that sweet little request. I held her until she fell back asleep, then crawled back into my own bed for some much needed shut-eye.
Jake and the Neverland Pirates
When Emma was 2 we were driving somewhere and she had her arms spread wide, "Daddy, I'm flying!" I said, "You are? Are you flying like Superman?" She responded, "Nope. I'm flying like a pirate!" I thought to myself, like a pirate?!?! Since when do pirates fly? My little girl is crazy. I looked to Mandy to see if I had misunderstood her. She explained that Emma watched Jake and the Neverland Pirates that week and that they flew by using Pixie Dust which the girl pirate wears in a pouch around her neck. How could I have missed that one? I looked back at her and she smiled and said, "Do you want to fly too, daddy?" I answered, "Of course!" She then proceeded to pull Pixie Dust from the imaginary pouch at her neck and fling it at me. We flew the rest of the way to our destination.
Talking Tummy
Emma and I just came back from the swimming pool and she sat down to eat a lunchable. I told her she couldn't have her cookies until she ate her meat, cheese and crackers. Her response was, "My tummy's pretty hungry." Then in as grumbly a voice as she could manage, "And I want cookies." Apparently her tummy wants cookies. As I was typing this, she came to give me an update on what she had eaten so far, "I finished my cheese... and my cheese... (long pause for dramatic effect) and my CHEESE." She is now finishing her meat and crackers so her tummy can fill its long awaited craving!

Ring in the Roll
I was getting ready for work on Tuesday and I was in the bathroom doing my hair. The pomade I use is a little sticky, so this is the one time I take off my ring. I always set it right on the counter where I will see it when I brush my teeth so I never forget to put it on.
It was a little later than usual and Emma was awake and talking to me in the bathroom while I got ready. When I was washing my hands I looked over at Emma and she had this mischievous little smirk on her face. She didn't say anything, she just stood there with a look that said, "I'm super funny and the best part is, you don't even know know why." I asked her what she was smiling about and she just shrugged. I thought little of it and finished getting ready then headed off to work.
As I turned onto Wadsworth, I noticed that my hand looked a little naked and my ring was not there. I put two and two together and realized what must have been so funny in the bathroom. I called Mandy and explained that I didn't have my ring on and I though Emma might have hidden it somewhere in the bathroom. Sure enough, a few minutes later I received a text from Mandy. My ring had been stuffed inside the roll of toilet paper, hanging from the dispenser. Next time I will think more of a mischievous little smirk.

Tit for Tat
If you've ever had the caramel macadamia nut clusters from Costco, then you know they are just about the greatest thing ever. Mandy's parents always have some in their pantry and it seems like we grab one or two every time we are there.
The last time we were over, Emma asked if she could have one. Mandy got them down from the pantry and set two on the table. Wanting to limit Emma's sugar, Mandy took a bite of one, then handed it to Emma so she wouldn't have a whole one. Emma promptly picked the other one up off the table with her free hand, took a bite and handed it to Mandy. I guess Emma just wanted to make sure Mandy didn't have too much sugar either.

The Case of the Missing Pee
The other day Emma ran in to use the restroom and a minute later she ran out all excited. She threw her hands out with the palms up in this, "oh my goodness, can you believe what just happened?" sort of way, eyes wide, head tilted slightly forward and she said, "Daddy, my pee disappeared! It just disappeared!"
Maybe I should explain that sometimes our pee is clear, like water, and that she doesn't have magic urination powers, but for now I will just laugh every time she does it.

I'm Watching You
A couple days after Easter, Emma was sitting down, enjoying a few pieces of her candy. I, ever so slyly distracted her and snatched a piece of her candy and promptly ate it. She turned back and immediately noticed that the piece was gone. With a rather stern look on her face, she looked up at me. She raised a hand and pointed two little fingers at her own eyes and then pointed at me as she said, "I'm watching you, Daddy!" After I finished laughing, I told her that I wouldn't take another piece of candy. To be honest, I was too afraid of the repercussions.
